Make Every Day Earth Day
Earth Day is one of my favorite holidays! It’s celebrated on April 22 and according to Earthday.org, over a billion people take part in this day of environmental action. When my girls were little, we marked the occasion by walking down our street looking for litter. The lucky hunter might even find an item that could be recycled. Kids are so easily inspired by simple things and can be great helpers. The girls proudly posted their homemade Eco Hero certificates on the fridge for all to see.
Here are 5 simple ideas on how you can celebrate Earth Day as a family:
· Plant a pollinator “pocket” garden.
· Invest in reusable water bottles and ditch the disposables.
· Go on a “look for litter” hunt in your neighborhood.
· Encourage your little ones to put on boots and splash in mud puddles.
· Start a compost pile with your veggie scraps and coffee grounds.
Earth Day comes just once a year, so why not make Earth Day, Every Day! There are so many benefits to spending time together outdoors as a family. Spoiler alert: Learn about “The Gift of Green Time” in my new book which will be published in May. Even though the emphasis is on the Door County Peninsula, the activity ideas can be applied to your location. Contact me at hello@bevgillen.com to place a pre-sale order.
