Family Finance

Family finance is not usually on a couple’s top 10 list of topics for date night. Talking about money doesn’t have to be boring or stressful, I promise! By setting aside time to discuss your financial goals, you're more likely to meet them!

Family Finance is one of the over 40 teaching topics in my Stork School curriculum for expectant parents. Guardianship, life insurance, child tax credits, how to save for college, and budgeting are all topics that are important for new parents to understand. If you would rather do anything EXCEPT talk about money, here are some tips on making it more fun:

·       Make it a date! Set aside an hour to work on your financial strategy and reward yourself by going out to lunch or dinner (insert your favorite activity here…).

·       Meet more often. Smaller, more frequent sessions may feel less stressful than tackling a big talk once a year.

·       Prioritize your family by putting your financial dates in your calendar and limiting interruptions during your meeting. Ask grandma to babysit and agree to turn off phone notifications. You are investing in your family's future!
