Spring into Spring

For those of us in cold climates like Minnesota, wouldn’t it be nice if the first day of spring was holiday with no work and no school – time to celebrate the end of 6 long months of winter? All too often, spring in the north takes its sweet time but here are some sneaky signs you can challenge the kiddos to find while you wait for warmer weather.

·      Tiny rivers that form under the ice along the sides of the streets (bonus points for stomping in your rain boots)

·      Robins and red wing blackbirds – see and hear them

·      Gritty snow – perfect for decorating with food coloring/water “spray paint”

·      Maple trees being tapped for syrup

·      Budding flowers like crocus, pussy willows, and forsythia

·      First clap of thunder

·      Newborn lambs (if you live in the Twin Cities, Gale Farm is a great place to see these little guys)!
